What is Instructional Design?
This link is very helpful because it explains what an instructional designer is the steps needed to be an effective designer. Instruction design depends on a person learning style or preference. This article will guide new designer in the right direction.
It helps to see before we do anything it is important to analyze the learner and what he or she wants to achieve. If a designer to not know what the learner is trying to learn or what outcome they are looking for then you cannot help the learner.
Models are used instructional design and the most popular is ADDIE system. The acronym for ADDIE means to Analyze, Design, Develop, and Implement and evaluate
Once the designer have analyzed and implement the design the plan must be carried out and evaluated. The designer should be able to identify strengths and weaknesses in the design, what worked and did not work, and if they met the needs of the learners
This site help me to see has help me to get a better understanding of instructional design and how to approach the designing and planning for my work place. I know I need to see what is in place and what is not in place, I need to understand the needs of the learners, analyze, design, develop, implement and most importantly evaluate the training to see if I accomplish what my work place needed in order to improve. As an instructional designer I will use the above information to help me become a successful and effective designer for my work place. As a new designer I know it is important that I understand the learning style of the people around me. I feel like this site have been very helpful and beneficial to me as well as other new designers.
Finding Your Place in Instructional Design
This site gave me more insight about the different fields in instructional design. Some of different areas are:
1. Designing for different learning experiences - Getting involved in designing for online training (synchronous or asynchronous); educational games; video; and etc.
2. Corporate, nonprofit, academic or government- Corporate environment might be geared toward developing custom work for customers.
3. Internal, client-based, or commercial products -Create internal training for their own employees
4. Content specialist -Concentrate in one field
5. Authoring specialist -Technical development side
6. Media specialist -Audio and video production and editing
7. Project management -Creating and following through on project plans.
8. Curriculum design -Develop curriculum for online and instructor-led
9. Managing an LMS -Ensures the system is running smoothly, trains others in its use, creates standards for the many detailed issues that arise and troubleshoots technical problems.
10. Community Manager -Oversees online relationship building, content creation and the use of social media tools, like forums and microblogs for learning.
It is great to know that you are just not limited to one or two jobs in these fields but you can pursue many different areas on instructional design. Your audience as a designer can be experience level of the students: mainstream education, special education, remedial/credit recovery, supplementary training, and more
After reading this I think I know what I am trying to do with this degree. I am interest in designing for different learning experiences. This information is also great for a new instructional designer because like me many of us are not really sure how we will make this a career or even where to start. Many of our careers are not in education but other fields.
Reading the different comments about instructional designing I really think this is an area I am going to enjoy. I cannot wait to dig into the deeper information of this field.
Today's Instructional Designer
This blog show the different between instructional designer ten years ago compared to designer today. Just like any other occupation instructional designers need to change as well to keep up with the ever changing technology. There is the internet all some many electronic devices it is important to advance with the times in order to make sure as an instructional designer you are creating or developing the best possible training you can.
One way instructional designer have kept up with technology and through blackboard. Since on-learning many universities delivery their method of instruction through blackboard. Blackbboard contribute the success of on-line learning to the instructional design of the program.
As a new instructional designer I can see the benefit of keeping up with technology and changing with technology. If I do not keep up with the changes I will not be able to provide my client with the learning outcome they are expecting.
